CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. – The three-day search of a property east of Salida by local, state and federal officials in the ongoing quest for clues about Suzanne Morphew’s disappearance wrapped up Sunday with no conclusive connections, the sheriff’s office said.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation spent three days searching the property on County Road 105 to follow leads.
But the sheriff’s office said that while details of the search are not available, after combing through several locations on the property, investigators “were unable to make any connection to Suzanne Morphew’s case at this time.”
The sheriff’s office said the property owner was fully cooperative with the investigators and not connected to Morphew’s disappearance.
“Someone has that key piece of information in this case that will help us locate Suzanne, and I’m asking our community members to continue to use the tip line to provide any information, no matter how inconsequential the tip may seem,” Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said in a statement.
Investigators say they have received hundreds of tips related to Morphew, 49, who has been missing since May 10 from the Maysville area.
That day, a neighbor called 911 to report that she had gone for a bike ride and never returned.
On May 15, Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said investigators had discovered an item on May 14 that could possibly belong to Suzanne while searching the area west of County Road 225 and U.S. Highway 50 outside of Maysville.
Spezze said the rest of the search on May 14 and following search on May 15 did not yield any other leads.
On May 17, a week after her disappearance, Suzanne’s husband, Barry Morphew, posted a video on the Facebook page set up to search for Suzanne, pleading for her safe return.
"Suzanne, if anyone is out there that can hear this that has you, please, we'll do whatever it takes to bring you back," he said as he held back tears in the video. "We love you. We miss you. Your girls need you."
He continued, saying "I'll do whatever it takes to get you back. Honey, I love you.”
Barry and a family friend are offering $200,000 for her safe return.
Trevor Noel, Suzanne’s nephew who also lives in Colorado, encouraged anybody who wanted to help to share Suzanne’s story and picture, the "Find Suzanne Morphew" Facebook page, the GoFundMe page, and tip line, 719-312-7530, with friends and family. The GoFundMe is raising money to support search and rescue efforts in the form of meals, lodging and equipment, Noel said.
The sheriff’s office said that investigators would continue to follow up on leads but that there are no searches set for Monday.
