LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The body of a woman recovered from Lakewood Gulch Sunday has been identified.

Lakewood police identified the woman as 38-year-old Jeannette Reynolds. Police said the woman was a transient living in the Lakewood area.

The 38-year-old woman was swept away in fast-moving waters during a torrential downpour Saturday.

Moments later, a witness saw what they believed was a person in the water near West 12th Avenue and Miller Street and called 911.

West Metro Fire crews searched Lakewood Gulch after the report, but after a thorough search, in chest-high waters at one point, they did not locate Reynolds.

On Sunday, the waters receded in the area and firefighters resumed the search. They found Reynolds body near the gulch soon after floodwaters receded.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has performed an autopsy. The official cause of death is pending further studies.
