PUEBLO, Colo. – The woman whose body was found inside a suitcase in a dumpster in Pueblo last Thursday was identified Monday as Maria Cuevas-Garcia, 58.

The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office released her identity but did not release details about her cause or manner of death.

Police arrested 36-year-old Anthony Cuevas for investigation on one count of first-degree murder and for a parole violation on Friday evening, as well as his wife, 36-year-old Melanie Ann Cuevas, who was brought in on a criminal impersonation warrant, Pueblo police said last week.

Pueblo police said Thursday that a woman’s body was found in a suitcase inside a dumpster that morning and that evening released surveillance video of a man putting the suitcase in the dumpster.

On Friday, police executed a search warrant at a home on Euclid Street and later announced that both Anthony and Melanie and Cuevas were arrested at a restaurant.

Police told the Pueblo Chieftain last week that Maria Cuevas-Garcia is the mother of Anthony Garcia.

Police have not released further details about the case.
