Teenager taken into custody in connection to Lakewood fatal shooting

UPDATE | Thursday, 12:45 p.m. — The teenager involved in this shooting has been identified as Caleb Brewer, 17. He has been charged with first-degree murder, according to the First Judicial District Attorney's Office.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A 17-year-old is in custody after Lakewood police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds outside his front door on March 9.

Police responded to a residence along the 8100 block of W. 12th Avenue on the evening of March 9 after receiving reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they found Robert Gene Steige, 64, of Lakewood with gunshot wounds near the entrance of his home. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

On March 12, police took a 17-year-old male suspect into custody. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Police said no other information will be provided about the suspect since he is a juvenile.
