DENVER – The two people who died in a plane crash outside of Telluride Monday were identified Tuesday as a couple from Florida who had eloped in the picturesque mountain town just four days earlier.
The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office identified the couple as Costas John Sivyllis, 30, and Lindsey Vogelaar, 33, of Port Orange, Fla. The two had gotten married in a small ceremony in Telluride last week, the sheriff’s office said.
Sivyllis was a United Airlines pilot and flight instructor, and Vogelaar also worked in the airline industry, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two took off in Sivyllis’s Beechcraft Bonanza from the Telluride Airport at 12:45 p.m. and is thought to have crashed around 1 p.m. in Ingram Basin east of the town. The sheriff’s office said the couple was flying back to Florida, with a possible refueling stop in Oklahoma.
Federal Aviation Administration flight records show the 1964 Beechcraft Bonanza was registered by Sivyllis this past April. The sheriff’s office said that he and Vogelaar had been documenting their wedding and honeymoon online for their family and friends.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
