CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — The brother of Suzanne Morphew is leading a new search effort in hopes of finding the missing Chaffee County woman, who was last seen May 10 at her home near Maysville, authorities said Friday.
Andrew Moorman, Morphew's brother, is putting together an independent search effort of hundreds of volunteers that will begin Sept. 24 and last several days, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said its agency and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation would like to help in the search effort but can't lead the search "due to liability issues."
Still, the sheriff's office will staff a command post with liasions to help the volunteer searchers. The sheriff's office's search and rescue units will also be available to help the search teams, and county crime scene staff will be available to document and collect any evidence that is found.
Investigators have performed at least 10 large-scale searches throughout the county, with the CBI and Federal Bureau of Investigation joining search and investigation efforts a few days after Morphew went missing.
On May 17, a week after her disappearance, Suzanne’s husband, Barry Morphew, posted a video on the Facebook page set up to search for Suzanne, pleading for her safe return. Mr. Morphew and a family friend are also offering a reward for her safe return.
Trevor Noel, Suzanne’s nephew who also lives in Colorado, encouraged anybody who wanted to help to share Suzanne’s story and picture, the "Find Suzanne Morphew" Facebook page, the GoFundMe page, and tip line, 719-312-7530, with friends and family.
To date, no arrests have been made and this remains a missing person’s case. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any information that may prove useful by calling the designated tip line at (719) 312-7530.
