DENVER – The owner of a 7-Eleven store near East Colfax and Syracuse Street who was allegedly stabbed to death by a disgruntled store manager has been identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Officers were called to the 7-Eleven at 7657 E. Colfax on the morning of Nov. 27 on a report that an employee at the convenience store had been stabbed and was bleeding to death, and that the suspect had fled the store.

Police documents state Tamerat Abebe, 43, was found bleeding “severely” from “several substantial apparent stab wounds to his neck and head.” Abebe was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he died shortly after 8 a.m. that day.

Bereket Cholo, 35, was arrested in Aurora after the incident and is being held for investigation on a first-degree murder charge, according to Denver police.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner found Abebe’s cause of death was from “sharp force injuries” and classified the manner of death as a homicide.
