The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a University of Colorado student this past weekend will not face a first-degree murder count but will face two felonies including second-degree murder.
Ian Scheuermann, 22, was formally charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sean Hudson, 26, and a count of felony menacing for reportedly threatening another man with a knife.
Boulder prosecutors indicated Monday that Scheuermann -- who is out on $100,000 bond -- could face first-degree murder charges but filed the second-degree count at his court hearing today at the Boulder County Jail.

The second-degree murder charge is a Class 2 extraordinary risk felony that could carry a sentence of up to 48 years in prison.
According to prosecutors, Scheuermann was leaving the Sundown Saloon in downtown Boulder early Saturday morning when he threatened a man in Hudson's group, identified in the filing documents as Jeremy Zeller, with a knife and said, "You wanna get stabbed?"
