Live blog: Snow tapering off but many highways remain closed

DENVER — Much of northeast Colorado received 8 or more inches of snow -- with over two feet in some places -- into Tuesday afternoon.

Though the snow will come to an end Tuesday afternoon, cold temperatures and much of the snow will remain. We'll keep you updated with the latest forecasts, road closures, school closures and delays, and snow totals here. Check back for live updates.

6:31 p.m. — The eastbound lanes of I-70 are back open at Colfax following a crash involving a camper that slid off the overpass into the right guard rail. The driver is being held on suspicion of DUI. More on this story: http://bit.ly/33pJePq.

5:38 p.m. CDOT officials say I-70 is back open in both directions from Burlington to Denver following an 11-hour closure.

5:34 p.m. The westbound lanes of I-70 are back open at the junction between US 6 and US 24 following a a fatal crash earlier Tuesday, CDOT says.

4:47 p.m. — The Douglas County School District will be closed Wednesday due to weather conditions, officials said late Tuesday afternoon. All before and after school programs, athletics, activities, practices and facility rentals are canceled. Parents whose children attend a DCSD charter school should check with their school for current status.

4:22 p.m. — CU Boulder will be closed Wednesday so crews can continue clearing large amounts of snow and ice from walkways and lots, officials said in a tweet Tuesday afternoon.

4:07 p.m. — CDOT says I-76 is back open in both directions between Lochbuie to the Nebraska state line as road conditions have improved.

4:01 p.m. The eastbound lanes of I-70 are closed at 6th Ave. near Lakewood due to a crash involving a camper on the right guard rail over Colfax. This was a view of the camper from a CDOT camera:

3:42 p.m. — It's another snow day for Jeffco Public Schools employees. District officials just announced all school buildings and facilities will be closed on Wednesday due to weather. They say employees should not report unless otherwise notified by their supervisor.

3:25 p.m. — Colorado Climate Center officials say Nov. 26 is the third snowiest day on record for the City of Boulder and the storm total of 22.3 inches is the third biggest two-day total for the month of November.

3:14 p.m. -- RTD says delays are starting to decrease as the storm weakens. Rail lines are seeing delays of up to 20 minutes; buses are seeing delays of up to 45 minutes.

1:33 p.m. — CDOT says westbound I-70 is now open all the way from the Kansas border to Denver but eastbound remains closed. Westbound I-70 has also reopened in the Beaver Brook/Floyd Hill area after a rockslide cleanup.

12:59 p.m. -- CDOT says westbound I-70 from Limon to Denver has reopened. However, westbound lanes from Burlington to Limon remain closed due to adverse weather.

12:42 p.m. — CDOT says that westbound I-70 could reopen at Beaver Brook east of Idaho Springs around mid-afternoon following this morning’s rockslide.

12:35 p.m. — U.S. 24 is back open between Limon and Calhan.

11:07 a.m. — There is moderate to considerable avalanche risk today in Colorado. For more information on avalanche forecasts, click here.

10:49 a.m. — US 6 between milemarker 220 and 229 — Loveland Pass — is closed.

10:37 a.m. — CDOT has closed US 6 is closed between I-70 and CO 119 in an effort to keep drivers away from the rock slide area. Crews are starting to remove the rocks and dirt.

10:30 a.m. — The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says they are demobilizing the Colorado National Guard and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control because so many residents decided to stay home instead of hit the roads.

10:21 a.m. — Highway 385 at mile post 165 is blocked due to a rolled over semi.

10:14 a.m. — Roxborough State Park has closed for the day. It received more than 16 inches of snow.

9:48 a.m. — Highway 287 is closed between Wiley and Limon.

9:22 a.m. — Trooper Josh Lewis said the fatal crash on I-70 westbound occurred at 5 a.m. and the semi driver was killed. Multiple vehicles were involved. The westbound lanes will stay closed until 4 p.m. today.

9:02 a.m. — The Denver Police Department said hey responded to 13 crashes since 5 a.m.

8:33 a.m. — RTD says buses are now delayed 45-60 minutes on most routes in the Denver metro area. Light rail and commuter rail trains are delayed by 15-30 minutes.

8:33 a.m. — I-70 eastbound has reopened between Dowds Junction and Post Boulevard after a fatal crash. The westbound lanes remain closed for an investigation.

8:24 a.m. — Highway 58 between Golden and I-70 has closed due to multiple crashes, according to CDOT.

8:19 a.m. — CSP Golden says it will only allow Idaho Springs residents past the westbound I-70 closure. Residents should have their ID ready.

8:02 a.m. — We just got a new round of snow totals in from across the state, and they’re impressive! A location southeast of Estes Park reported 31.7 inches; one near Drake reported 29 inches and Lyons is reporting 23.2 inches. Click here for more totals.

7:42 a.m. — I-70 westbound is closed at exit 248 at Floyd Hill due to a major rock slide.

7:39 a.m. — The Denver Police Department says nine crashes have occurred since 5 a.m.

7:21 a.m. — I-70 westbound is closed at Idaho Springs due to rockfall.

7:09 a.m. — USPS says its letter carriers are still out today, so while you shovel your sidewalk, don't forget to clear a path to your mailbox.

6:27 a.m. — Colorado State Patrol in Eagle County says I-70 is closed in both directions between Dowds Junction and Post Boulevard around Eagle-Vail due to a fatal crash, hazmat situation and other crashes. It will stay closed for most of today.

5:57 a.m. — RTD buses are delayed by 30-45 minutes on most routes this morning. Mountain routes may be delayed by even more. Trains are delayed by 10-20 minutes. Canceled trips could cause longer delays on some lines.

5:43 a.m. — The E Line traveling southbound from Evans Station to Ridgegate Station has been canceled for 5:01 a.m. and 5:12 a.m. The F Line has been canceled northbound from 18th to California Station for 5:57 a.m., 6:12 a.m., 7:57 a.m. and 8:12 a.m. and southbound from 18th and Stout Station to Ridgegate Station a 6:49 a.m., 7:04 a.m. and 8:49 a.m.

5:40 a.m. — A crash has been reported on I-70 near Sheridan.

5:30 a.m. — State of Colorado government buildings will be closed in Denver, Boulder, Greeley, Fort Collins and the suburban counties today.

5:29 a.m. — RTD Lines C and D are both closed this morning. The C Line is expected to reopen northbound at 10:24 a.m. and southbound after 9:20 a.m. The D Line will reopen after 7:17 a.m. northbound and after 9:05 a.m. southbound.

5:23 a.m. — DIA has received 7 inches of snow so far. As of now, 463 flights have been canceled with 11 delays. Check your flight status with your airline before you come to the airport. Pena Boulevard is currently snowpacked so give yourself extra time to get to the airport.

5:12 a.m. — The semi that jackknifed on eastbound I-70 between Manila Road and CO 79 has been moved, so all lanes are back open.

5:10 a.m. — The city of Aurora has reported between 6-8 inches of snow. Roads are icy and snowpacked.

4:47 a.m. — A jackknifed semi has closed the eastbound lanes of I-70 between Manila Road and CO 79.

4:25 a.m. — Interstate 70 is closed from Airpark Road east to Burlington by the Kansas border. It is not yet closed in the mountains.

4:16 p.m. — Blizzard conditions are expected over the eastern part of the plains and south and southeast of Denver for several hours today. The warning is in effect until 5 p.m. for northeastern Colorado east of Briggsdale, Wiggins, Bennett, and Castle Rock and north of Limon.

3:44 a.m. Over 400 flights in and out of DIA have been canceled, according to the airport.

3:29 a.m. I-76 closed in both directions from Lochbuie to Sterling.

2:40 a.m. Updated National Weather Service expected snow fall totals calls for 12-18 inches in Denver.

2:05 a.m. A motorist crashed a vehicle into a "formation of plows" at eastbound I-70 at Genessee, CSP says. No injuries were reported.

TUESDAY

11:48 p.m. I-76 is closed between Lochbuie in Weld and Adams counties and the Nebraska state line, CDOT says.

11:35 p.m. — Colorado Highway 64 is closed between Blacks Gulch and County Road 127 due to a crash. There is no estimated time for the reopening of the highway.

11:30 p.m. Denver city government offices will be closed Tuesday in anticipation of inclement weather conditions, city officials said late Monday night. All 24-hour city services will maintain regular operating schedules. This includes snow response, traffic operations, trash/recycling, 311, and public safety and emergency responder operations.

11:25 p.m. — US 36 is closed between Fish Creek Rd. in Estes Park and County Rd. 47 (5 miles west of the Lyons area) due to adverse weather conditions, CDOT says.

10:36 p.m. — Wadsworth Blvd. is closed between Kassler Road and Ken Caryl Road due to a crash involving multiple vehicles at the intersection, CDOT officials say.

10:17 p.m. Several city facilities in Longmont will be on a delayed start (starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday) due to inclement weather.

10:11 p.m. — Commerce City administrative offices and buildings will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 26 due to weather, officials said late Monday night.

9:12 p.m. — US 287 is now closed from the Colorado state line north to Laramie, Wyoming, due to wintry conditions.

9:40 p.m. — A commercial vehicle traction law is now in effect on US 50 one mile west and east of Monarch Pass, CDOT officials say.

8:55 p.m. — Denver International Airport officials report 318 delays and 58 cancellations at the airport as of 9 p.m. Monday. A total of 444 flights have been canceled for Tuesday, Nov. 26.

7:52 p.m. All City of Centennial offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 26 due to inclement weather conditions, officials announced just before 8 p.m.

6: 45 p.m. — All Gilpin County government offices are closed Tuesday, Nov. 26 due to inclement weather.

5:30 p.m. In their latest update, CDOT officials advise drivers from traveling between midnight and 9 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service advises, "Conditions will NOT be favorable for the busy holiday travel period leading up to, during, and after Thanksgiving, especially in the mountains.”

5:15 p.m. Jeffco students are on Thanksgiving break, but officials said Tuesday all buildings and facilities will be closed Tuesday due to weather. They added employees do not need to report to work (unless otherwise notified by a supervisor). All school age enrichment programs, after school activities, child care services and meetings in Jeff Public Schools are also canceled.

4:59 p.m. — US 36 is closed between Mall Road in Estes Park and Pinewood Springs due to weather-related crashes, the Town of Estes Park tweeted.

4:45 p.m. — Littleton offices will be open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, while Boulder parks and rec as well as library facilities will stay closed tomorrow. City of Northglenn facilities will also be closed - including City Hall, courts, and the Recreation/Senior Center (the Justice Center and Maintenance/Operations will be open fro critical services only); trash service will be delayed by a day.

4:33 p.m. A passenger traction law is now in effect on I-70 from the Eisenhower Tunnel to Golden, CDOT officials say.

3:18 p.m. University of Denver has announced the campus will be closed Tuesday due to inclement weather. All classes and academic operations are cancelled.

2:22 p.m. — The storm has already moved into Colorado and the snow is already increasing over the I-25 corridor and foothills in northern Colorado. It will expand south in the next couple hours.

2:14 p.m. — Here's the latest look at expected snowfall totals from this storm, from Denver7 Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson.

12:21 p.m. — The Poudre School District announced that its schools will be closed tomorrow. All after-school activities are closed Monday and Tuesday.

9:40 a.m. — Colorado State Patrol out of Golden said they are anticipating a safety closure along the I-70 corridor Monday evening and Tuesday. If you're planning on using the interstate, hit the road as early as you can today.

8:45 a.m. — The University of Northern Colorado has canceled classes for both Monday and Tuesday. It's expecting to operate on a normal schedule on Wednesday.
