DENVER — The middle of May and temperatures are getting toasty, with summer-like heat across the state through Wednesday.

Highs soared into the 80s, with even a few 90-degree readings across southeastern Colorado on Monday. Skies were mostly sunny and winds gusty at times, especially in the mountains and over southern Colorado. The warmth and the wind raised fire danger over the southern half of Colorado - Red Flag Warnings will be in effect Tuesday for the southern Denver Metro, southern foothills and the central and southwest mountains.
Tuesday will start out mostly sunny and temperatures will quickly warm back into the 80s for lower elevations and 70s in the mountains. A few storms are expected to form by Tuesday afternoon and evening over the Front Range and eastern plains. The is a slight chance for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday across eastern Colorado. Lightning and strong winds will be the main threats.
Wednesday will see low to mid 80s on the plains, with a few more late day storms. A weak cold front will usher in some cooler air by Thursday. The winds will pick up with the passage of the front and that means higher fire danger across parts of Colorado on Thursday.
Temperatures will be cooler on Thursday with highs in the 60s in the mountains and 70s for the plains.
Friday and Saturday will be dry and pleasant, followed by a better chance for thunderstorms on Sunday.
