DENVER — A record high temperature of 100 degrees was set for Denver today, the first triple digit high of the season! This breaks the old record of 98 last set in 2013. It is also the 58th day of 90 degrees or above.
The weather remains hot and dry all across Colorado and that is bad news for firefighters. Hot, dry and hazy conditions persist across most of the state, including Denver and the Front Range.
Fire danger remains high, especially across the Western Slope where relative humidity is below 15% and winds are gusting over 30 mph. We'll also see highs in the upper 90s to low 100s by 3 p.m. Multiple large wildfires burning in the state now combine to affect nearly 150,000 acres.
Air quality remains poor due to wildfire smoke and ground-level ozone. A Denver7 Action Day continues today due to these smoky conditions.
Expect more highs in the 90s over the Denver metro area for the next few days with just a slight lowering of temperatures later this week.
There remains a slight chance for scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the plains. Most of the storms will just produce lightning and brief strong gusty winds, but there will not be much rain with these storms.
Little, if any moisture is expected in the mountains and the usual summer monsoon has been a no-show in 2020.
Highs will stay in the 90s through the weekend into early next week.
