DENVER — A cool, wet storm during a long holiday weekend is not often considered "great" weather. In the case of the soggy system that swirled across Colorado on Sunday, it was just the ticket - we really needed the moisture!

Despite throwing a cold, wet towel on some outdoor plans, the moisture was mighty welcome for a lot of gardeners, farmers, ranchers and fire fighters! Our state has been slipping back into drought conditions and we had missed much of the typical moist storm systems in April and most of May - this one came in handy, even if over a holiday weekend.

Behind that storm, dry and milder weather has returned to the central Rockies. Highs reached the mid to upper 70s in Denver and across the plains, with 50s and 60s in the high country this afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly clear and mild with lows in the upper 40s to mid-50s for lower elevations and 30s to low 40s in the mountains.

Wednesday will start out sunny and pleasant, but clouds will begin to build over the mountains by midday and scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon. The best chances for storms will be over the mountains and foothills, with just a slight chance expected along and east of I-25. Severe weather is not expected. Highs will be in the middle 50s to low 60s in the mountains and upper 70s to low 80s for Denver and the I-25 Corridor.

For those heading up to ski at A-basin, first chair temperatures will be in the mid 30s with partly cloudy skies, then near 50 degrees with scattered showers for the last run.

The Front Range will have another chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday with highs in the upper 70s.

Temperatures will warm back into the low 80s Friday and Saturday with lower rain chances. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely on Sunday, followed by drier and hotter weather Monday.
