DENVER — Strong thunderstorms blew up again Tuesday across Colorado with one particularly nasty storm roaring across the southern part of the Denver Metro area.  Heavy rain, hail and strong winds belted Littleton, Englewood, the Tech Center and parts of Aurora between 6:30 and 7:15 PM.

The storms rumbled off to the east of Denver with an amazing lightning display through 10 PM on the eastern plains. Some flash flooding occurred in Morgan County with over three inches of rain near Fort Morgan.

Skies will clear overnight with lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s over northeast Colorado and the Denver area.  Some patchy morning fog may develop early Wednesday, but it should clear rather quickly.

Skies will be mostly sunny through the morning on Wednesday and temperatures will warm to around 80 degrees by lunchtime.  Highs will reach the mid-to upper 80s in the afternoon in Denver, with 70s to low 80s in the mountains.

More strong thunderstorms are likely to develop over eastern Colorado, including the Denver Metro area by mid-afternoon. Large hail, very heavy rain and intense lightning will be the primary threats.

There is enough moisture in the atmosphere to fuel the daily dose of storms across Colorado.  This is the typical mid-to late summer pattern for our area and little change is expected through the weekend.  Some days will feature better chances for storms due to minor weather features moving into the area.

Northwesterly winds aloft will serve to steer a couple of weak cold fronts down from the Northern Rockies across Colorado. With the passage of each front, temperatures will drop a bit, the humidity will increase and the rain chances will be greater.

The most likely days to see numerous thunderstorms will be Wednesday and Thursday and again on Saturday.  Friday and Sunday should be warmer days with isolated afternoon and evening storms and highs in the mid to upper 80s.
