DENVER — The hottest weather of the year is coming to Colorado for the next few days. High temperatures will be in the upper 90s to low 100s for Denver and the eastern plains through Friday.

There will only be a few high-based gusty thunderstorms popping up in the heat. The severe weather threat will stay pretty low as the surface relative humidity will be in the 15 to 30% range — not much moisture to fuel big storms.

The great thing about Colorado is that the nighttime lows will be comfortable! The dry air will lose heat quickly at night with temperatures dropping into the 60s over lower elevations and into the 40s to low 50s in the mountains.

Thursday and Friday looks to be the hottest days of the week and the year with a predicted high of 100 degrees. We typically only hit the century mark a couple times each summer, but if the high hits 100 degrees, it will be the 90th time to hit that mark since the late 1800s.

There will be a better chance of storms this weekend and that will help to cool things off in the afternoon hours both Saturday and Sunday.
