Event cancellations and delays following snowstorm in the metro area

DENVER -- The Denver metro are was pummeled with a surprising amount of snow overnight, which has caused some cancelations and delays for some events taking place this weekend. 

Commencement at the University of Colorado - Denver

University officials tweeted at 4:30 a.m. that the CU Denver commencement ceremony would be delayed by one hour due to the weather. 

The ceremony was rescheduled to began at 10 a.m. 

Officials told followers that students should plan on arriving at 8:45 a.m., and also told them to take it slow and drive safely in these wintry conditions. 

Westminster Historical Society History Center

"Due to the recent snowstorm, all activities at the Westminster Historical Society History Center have been canceled for Saturday, Dec. 17," said a spokesperson for the historical society.

The events include the monthly membership meeting as well as the Holiday Lighting Open House to honor the students who decorated Christmas trees at the History Center, the spokesperson said. 

However, their fundraiser at the Barnes and Noble at 9370 Sheridan Boulevard was still on for Saturday. 

The History Center will return to normal business hours on Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo also announced on Twitter a Saturday opening delay. The zoo, which normally opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays, will open at noon due to snowstorm. 

Zoo Lights is scheduled to be open Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m.
