Born at exactly 9:23 a.m. Monday, Poppy Akers is not only adorable, she's a “leapling.”

“We thought she'd come early but, she came this morning,” said her mom, Kara Akers.

Born on February 29, Poppy is now part of a pretty exclusive club. Right now in the US, there are only 187,000 people who were born on leap day, with approximately four million others from around the world.

“I wasn't so sure about it at first,” said Akers.

Normally, the chance of being born on any given day is 1 in 365. But for leap babies, it's four times that plus one. So one in 1,461. That means only 0.07 percent of the world's population shares a birthday with Poppy.

Online, there are even several birthday clubs to celebrate “leapers.”

“So the big question becomes, when it's not a leap year, when do you celebrate your birthday?

“We'll probably give it some thought and make a decision by next year,” said Akers.
