There's a new power ranking in the NFL - comparing the force of each team to characters from the Star Wars movies.

Andrew Mason posted the list on the Denver Broncos website Wednesday.

"The rankings incorporate offensive, defensive and special-teams metrics, with a focus on yardage per play, adjusted per-possession efficiency (including points per possession) and the rate at which teams gain and prevent first downs," Mason explained. "Strength of schedule and error rates (penalties and giveaways) are also factored into the calculation."

Denver Broncos: Chewbacca

While Broncos fans may have been hoping for a more heroic role, the team was cast as Han Solo's powerful and loyal partner, Chewbacca.

"There was no stronger sentient being in terms of brute strength than Chewbacca, and the Broncos' top-ranked defense has a little of his anger and power in it -- although they're not about to start pulling arms out of sockets," Mason wrote. "Broncos fans would probably agree with C-3PO: 'Let the Wookiee win.'"

New England Patriots: Emperor Palpatine

In the Star Wars universe, the New England Patriots would be Emperor Palpatine.

"Is there really any other choice?" Mason asked.

Palpatine is described as, "Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core," on Star Wars Databank

"He slowly manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named Supreme Chancellor -- and eventually Emperor -- ruling the galaxy through fear and tyranny," the website states.

Here is a look at some of the other major players.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Darth Vader - "The Steelers are a budding menace, but you sense some good beneath the armor," wrote Mason.

Carolina Panthers: Luke Skywalker

Arizona Cardinals: Yoda

Seattle Seahawks: Han Solo - "The Seahawks appeared to be frozen in carbonite when the season began," said Mason." "Now they're back and ready to storm the shield generator."

New York Jets: Princess Leia

Oakland Raiders: Boba Fett - "Fiercely independent, resourceful and driven by revenge and cool hatred," Mason wrote.

Detroit Lions: Jabba the Hutt - "A bit too bloated to live up to their potential, and -- in their current form -- prone to feeding members of the court to the proverbial Sarlaac," Mason explained.
