BB17 Week 2: Overall health benefits to training for the Bolder Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. -- BolderBOULDER co-founder and Olympic Gold Medalist Frank Shorter says there are some obvious benefits to regular aerobic exercise like physical fitness and weight loss but a few more are:

  • Exercise is a remedy to stop cognitive decay
  • 60-90 percent of people see a doctor for a stress related medical issue. Regular exercise decreases stress and can even prevent and treat depression
  • More energy
  • Lower your risk of health problems like diabetes, heart disease and cancer

Frank also says first time runners shouldn’t be overwhelmed when they get to the starting line on Memorial Day. He says you should start planning now to arrive at the start line an hour before your wave takes off. Instead of one big start with all 50,000+ people taking off at once, the BolderBOULDER divides everyone into about 100 waves. They’re organized by runner’s expected pace so that everyone can run with people their own speed. Waves start with the fastest runners, then go to slower runners, then joggers, then walkers.
