Former Broncos’ cornerback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Champ Bailey is using the leadership he displayed on the gridiron to make a difference off of it.

“It’s not intentional to be a leader, it’s just who I am,” says Bailey.

He found the right people, two engineers who developed a Smart Mask.

“One thing that got my attention of it was the compliance mechanism,” says Bailey. “You can go back and look at the data that’s collected in the mask, contact tracing and things like that, and see who was wearing a mask around a person who was infected at that time.”

The technology in the mask monitors data like body temperature, air quality, and contact tracing - all in real time.

Bailey would like to see this technology applied in the classroom.

“You get somebody in a classroom who gets COVID-19, the whole classroom has to quarantine,” says Bailey. “Maybe you quarantine a select few who had long contact with someone [who tested positive for COVID-19] or weren’t wearing a mask. Those are little datapoints that help you make good decisions.”

At the moment, Bailey’s goal is to get kid’s back in school, and you can help through Smart Mask’s Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

“You can buy one mask or a bunch of masks,” says Bailey. “You can sponsor a school or classroom, just little things like that so we can try to protect these kids and get them back in the classroom.”
