DENVER -- Ethan Coppus took the 1,400-mile journey from North Carolina to be at Sunday's Broncos home opener. It was a trip he never thought he would make.
In 2014, Ethan was diagnosed with Thymic Carcinoma, a very rare cancer.
"I'm just trying to live life," he said just after arriving at the stadium. "Whatever happens happens."
Ethan and his wife, Tia, simply didn't have the money to make a trip to Denver. The Fill Your Bucket List Foundation based out of North Carolina did it for them. Six months ago, Ethan and his wife were surprised with an all-expenses-paid trip to Denver to watch the Broncos play.
"This is awesome. I've always wanted to be here," Ethan said as he held his wife's hand through the parking lot.
Ethan is still fighting for his life. A year of chemo and 35 radiation treatments haven't beaten the disease. He's now taking part in a trial treatment and the medication has affected his muscles and speech.
"My husband is the ultimate warrior," said Tia. "These Broncos are gonna win because we have the ultimate fighter in the stadium."
Once the couple got inside the stadium their nosebleed tickets were upgraded to field. It was icing on the cake for a dream come true for a couple bound by love and heartache.
"Cancer is not the center of life," Tia said. "God and our love is what gets us through everyday."
The Coppus' will be in Colorado until Tuesday. They plan to explore beautiful Colorado until flying back home.
