ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Former Denver Broncos backup quarterback Chad Kelly was formally charged Thursday with one felony count of first-degree trespassing two weeks after he was arrested following a Halloween party he attended with several of his former teammates.

Kelly, 24, was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. on Oct. 23 after allegedly entering a home on S. Lincoln St. in Englewood, sat down next to a woman and her child and started “mumbling incoherently,” and was chased out by the homeowner, according to police.

He had been at a party at the nearby Gothic Theatre hosted by Von Miller that night. Following his arrest shortly before 2 a.m., he bonded out later that morning.

The Broncos waived Kelly a day later following his first court appearance. Broncos President of Football Operations and General Manager John Elway said he, coach Vance Joseph, and Joe Ellis agreed that releasing Kelly was “the right thing to do.” Elway said the team had “offered to help [Kelly] however we can and are supportive of him in every way.”

Kelly appeared in court alongside his attorney Thursday for the return of his filed charges.

His next court appearance will be a felony disposition hearing, which is currently scheduled for Dec. 3.
