Trayvon Martin Will Be Given A College Degree

More than five years after his death, Trayvon Martin will get a college degree.

Florida Memorial University will give Martin a posthumous bachelor's degree in aeronautical science with a concentration in flight education.

The university says the aeronautics degree is "in honor of the steps he took during his young life toward becoming a pilot."

If Martin were alive, he would be 22 years old.

Martin was 17 when neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman shot and killed him in February 2012.

Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder but was ultimately acquitted of the crime in 2013.

Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will accept his posthumous degree on his behalf during the school's spring commencement ceremony May 13.
