EAGLE, Colo. (AP) — Two people accused of starting a wildfire in western Colorado last summer by firing incendiary tracer rounds at a shooting range are seeking to have their trials moved outside Eagle County.
The Aspen Daily News reports that Allison Marcus and Richard Miller, both of El Jebel, have pleaded not guilty to arson charges. Authorities accuse the two, both 24 years old, of starting the Lake Christine Fire last July that destroyed three homes and burned some 12,600 acres (5,099 hectares) near Basalt.
Prosecutors are opposing the move.
District Judge Paul Dunkelman is scheduled to hear arguments on the matter Thursday.
Miller's trial is set to begin May 28 while Marcus' trial is set to start June 17.
Prosecutors are seeking to combine the two trials, which defense attorneys oppose.
