LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — The Cameron Peak Fire was at 92% containment and 208,913 acres as of Wednesday morning, following another period of minimal growth in western Larimer County.

The nearby Thompson Zone of the East Troublesome Fire remained at 4,889 acres and was 48% contained, officials said.

Crews on Tuesday used helicopters to drop retardant on isolated areas of the fire that were still burning, and firefighters were planning to monitor activity on Wednesday. All evacuations have been lifted in the fires, though Rocky Mountain National Park and National Forest lands in the area remain closed.

Colder weather will move into the fire area on Wednesday but the front could also bring wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Conditions had warmed over the last week, but firefighters have taken advantage of the melting snow to mop up the perimeter of the Cameron Peak Fire
