LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Crews were able to add more containment lines on the Cameron Peak Fire on Thursday but were preparing for strong winds Friday ahead of likely heavy snow this weekend.
Firefighters will focus on structure protection and reinforcing firelines. The fire was at 206,977 acres and 57% contained, up from 55% containment Thursday, according to Friday morning's update.
The fire did not grow in size from Thursday to Friday.

While colder weather and snow later this weekend should help fire conditions, strong winds ahead of the cold front were expected to create extreme fire conditions in the High Country on Friday and Saturday.
The cause of the Cameron Peak Fire remains under investigation. It sparked on Aug. 13. It is the first wildfire in Colorado history to grow beyond 200,000 acres.
