LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Crews have increased containment on the western edge of the Cameron Peak Fire, bringing the total containment to 27% as of Thursday, officials said.
Temperatures were above normal Thursday with low humidity and wind gusts up to 30 mph. Winds were expected to increase overnight, and a fire watch was in effect Thursday, and it is expected to be upgraded to a red flag warning for Friday.
The fire was at 104,791 acres Thursday, as 831 crewmembers were still working it.
On Tuesday morning, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office lifted voluntary evacuation orders for the Glen Haven, Glen Haven Retreat, Storm Mountain and County Road 43 areas on the southeastern side of the fire.
Mandatory evacuations remained in place for the Red Feather Lakes and Crystal Lakes areas, and voluntary evacuations are in place for Glacier View, Lady Moon and Magic Sky Ranch and the surrounding areas.
The fire ignited on Aug. 13 in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests near Cameron Pass and Chambers Lake. Its cause is under investigation.
