GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against four employees of the Mesa County Department of Human Services in connection to the death of an 11-month-old girl.
The Daily Sentinel reports that the four employees have been named in a federal civil lawsuit that was filed by the grandfather of Angel Place, who died in September 2014.
Angel died as a result of blunt-force injuries to the head nine weeks after she was placed in the care of her aunt and uncle.
The lawsuit alleges that the Department of Human Services child-protection workers should never have removed Angel from the care of her foster family.
Angel's aunt, Sydney White, was sentenced last November to 30 years in prison for the death.
