FORT CARSON, Colo. -- More than 4,000 Fort Carson soldiers will head to Europe for the winter as a response to growing tensions between the United States and Russia, the Pentagon said Thursday.

The troops will arrive in Poland in January and from there, will go to seven other countries including Germany, Bulgaria, Romania and the Baltic States in order to be stationed for an unspecified amount of time.

"The post's 3rd Brigade Combat Team will arrive in Poland in January to join in Operation Atlantic Resolve, a string of training exercises designed to demonstrate America's commitment to the region in the face of Russian aggression," according to The Gazette

This will be Fort Carson's largest deployment of troops to Europe since the Cold War.
