Huerfano County authorities say they're working with federal agents on an investigation into the death of a man who was shot while trying to break into a home that had an illegal marijuana grow operation.

The Denver Post reports that Jorge Gonzales was killed on March 14 by one of the home's residents as he and two others tried to break in. Authorities haven't been able to locate the other two suspects.

Two residents in the southern Colorado home near Walsenburg have been arrested on charges related to the marijuana operation.

Authorities say any charges in the fatal shooting are pending the outcome of a Huerfano County Sheriff's Office investigation.

Sheriff Bruce Newman says the federal Drug Enforcement Administration is working with his office on the case.
