The firing of FBI Director James Comey may go down as one of Washington’s messiest breakups.
KNUS radio host Krista Kafer says there are two possible narratives.
“One is that Comey knew something. He was too close,” Kafer told Anne Trujillo on this week’s Politics Unplugged. “I don’t think that’s true, if he had known something why not keep him close and not fire him. There’s a reason why J Edgar Hoover never got fired. He knew stuff. The other narrative is that Comey mishandled, and perhaps he did mishandle, some aspects of the Hillary Clinton investigation last year. So now, how many months into his tenure, President Trump decided to fire him? I don’t think that holds water either.”
Kafer says she thinks the more likely reason Comey was fired is that he was not loyal to President Trump, but rather loyal to the American people.
“These kinds of decisions don’t look good,” Kafer said. “It doesn’t look like he’s got it together, doesn’t look like he’s got leadership skills.”
A Scripps Flash Poll asked people what they thought was behind Comey’s firing.
A huge majority, 67 percent, felt it was linked to the Russian investigation.
Just under a third believed it was linked to the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
The rest believe there is some other reason.
