DENVER -- When the Colorado Legislature gets together to begin the new session in January, the same parties will be in control of the House and the Senate, but there will be new leadership.
House Democrats have chosen Rep. Crisanta Duran of Denver to be Speaker of the House while Senate Republicans have chosen Sen. Kevin Grantham of Canon City to serve as president.
Both leaders joined Marshall Zelinger and Anne Trujillo for this week’s Politics Unplugged with a preview of what they are already working on.
“We have been talking to each other for the last month or so,” Grantham told the hosts. “We will try to work together on transportation especially. That’s one of the main topics we’ve been discussing, finding that revenue stream that we can all agree upon, that we can move forward with and fund transportation infrastructure.”
Grantham and Duran said what that revenue stream is remains to be seen.
“I think all options are on the table and we have to make certain that we always put people first,” Duran said. “I believe that this upcoming session we are going to find common ground on a lot of different issues.”
