DENVER – Just over four months to the general election and there has already been $25 million spent on the governor’s race, much of it by the candidates themselves. Denver Post columnist Krista Kafer says that sends a mixed message.
“Does that mean poor people can’t get into races? I think that’s a good objection,” she said on this weekend’s Politics Unplugged. “On the other hand, Jared [Polis] made that money and he worked very hard as a businessman, why shouldn’t he put his own money into it? Also, other people are free to put in money, whether you’re rich or poor to support ideas or candidates that you like.”
Kafer is joined on the broadcast by democratic strategist Steve Welchert. They also discussed the fact that Colorado will once again only have men in the governor’s ballot come November.
“It’s got to be the right woman. It’s got to be the right candidate,” Welchert said. “Women don’t always just vote for women, you vote for the right candidate.”
