DENVER – An art installation on 20th Avenue near Sherman Street is gaining a lot of attention in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The piece features brightly colored tulle displayed on a sign in front of Bella Vista Mexican Restaurant.
The installation is called “Flare” and it was created by artist Ana Maria Hernando.
“The name ‘Flare’ comes because flare is a signal, a signal that we are here. A signal that appears in the sky and then disappears quickly,” said Hernando.
Hernando told Denver7 she began planning the piece in March and installed it at its current location mid-July.
“As soon as it went up people were passing by and they were asking all kinds of questions about what it was. To make the piece, we used 15 miles of fabric, of tulle, and many people came together to sew. That was a very moving thing for me,” said Hernando.
Hernando said the installation is not permanent. She has plans to take it down within the next few weeks.
