AURORA, Colo. — A new mixed-use development called the “Citadel on Colfax” is coming to Aurora.

The project, located on Colfax Ave. near Chambers Rd. (next to the old K-Mart), will include an extended stay hotel, restaurants, retail stores, and town homes.

“It’s a 20-acre parcel we purchased in August 2016," said Don Marcotte, Managing Partner of Northstar Commercial Partners, the developer for the Citadel on Colfax.

Marcotte said construction on the infrastructure for the development is currently underway and is expected to be completed by September 2019.

“We’re selling off six acres to a town home builder... we personally will develop these two retail buildings which are about 7,500 square feet each,” said Marcotte.

The town home portion of the development was initially going to be affordable housing for veterans.

“We actually bought this location because we were going to try to do some veteran housing but were unable to get the tax credits. It was so close to the VA hospital, that’s what made it attractive to us but then we had to move away from that,” said Marcotte.

Marcotte said the town homes will be available to all renters.
