COMMERCE CITY - Commerce City is using new federal funds to help homeowners make needed improvements for health, safety, accessibility and energy efficiency.

The Home Repairs Programs (HRPs) has more than $350,000 in funding from the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Home repairs that would qualify under this program could include plumbing, electrical, roofing, heating, weatherproofing, exterior paint, the addition of wheelchair ramps and more.

The program is designed for low-income homeowners. The income limit for a single person is $50,350. The limit for a two-person household is $57,550 and continues to go up. For instance, a family of four can make up to $71,900 to qualify. While there are different requirements depending on the scope of the project, the general qualifications include:

· The home must be located within Commerce City boundaries.

· The property must be a single-family residence; manufactured homes may also be eligible.

· The applicant must be a legal U.S. resident.

· The applicant must be current on their mortgage payments or have paid-off their mortgage.

· The property must not be for sale.

· Repair workers must be able to access all areas of the home safely, which must be clear of clutter/debris.

Homeowners interested in the program can find more information and the application HERE . Application packets can also be found at the Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Avenue. Home improvement projects will start on a first-come, first-served basis as applications are received and approved.
