DENVER -- As the City of Denver copes with rapid growth, one group is taking the time to reflect on its past and focus on preservation.
The Denver Architecture Foundation held its fourteenth annual Doors Open Denver event. It's an opportunity for people to tour some of the city's most prized historic buildings.
One of the walking tours was held outside the famous Molly Brown house in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The home is a prime example of why preservation is so important; it was nearly torn down in the 1970s to make way for a surface parking lot.
"I think that that’s as an important reflection as our city is changing," said Pauline Herrera Serianni, executive director of the Denver Architecture Foundation. "Our history always influences our future and so I think it’s an incredibly important time to just sort of take that break and have that reflection and really have an appreciation for the beauty of our city’s architecture and design."
