One Dead After Vail Bar Shooting

Suspect Caught By Police

One person is dead and three people are injured after a shooting at a bar on Saturday night in Vail.

Vail Police Chief Dwight Henninger said officers received a 911 call of shots fired at 7:28 p.m. from the Sandbar Sports Grill in the western part of town. Police have arrested one man in connection with the shooting, Henninger said.

The suspect was later identified as Richard Moreau, 63, of Vail. Moreau was arrested and is in custody. Vail police report they believe Moreau acted alone and there are no other suspects.

Vail police said the shooting victim who died was a resident of Carbondale. All of the wounded victims are males, ages 25, 29 and 63.

One of the victims was taken by a medical helicopter for further medical assistance. One victim is being treated at Vail Valley Medical Center and one has been treated and released.

A witness told 7News that the shooter had been thrown out of the bar. The suspect allegedly came back and shot the man who threw him out.

The Vail Daily reported Moreau is a long-time Vail resident. In a 2006 interview with the newspaper, Moreau claimed he was a Vietnam veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome.
