The Guardian Angels take steps every night to make the streets of Denver safer. They started their Mile High journey more than a decade ago, thanks to Denver chapter founder Sebastian Metz."Our mission is essentially to try to provide a friendly face out there on the streets," Metz said.In January 2005, when Metz's heart failed him, it affected his speech and mobility, but not his desire to help others."His energy was like, 'I want to get back. I want to get back to the group. I want to get back to my family,'" said Guardian Angel Sandra Barbero."No. 1, I have a young son now and I can say, 'Look at this, your dad stood for something,'" said Metz.Metz has stood up for others for more than 22 years. While he no longer patrols with the other Guardian Angels, he believes more than ever that daring to care is what life is all about."I plan to go until my last breath. I mean, I'm sure I'll be buried in a red and white coffin," he said.
