COLUMBINE, Colo. — A 17-year-old died after crashing his car into a light pole early Monday morning.

Cpl. Ivan Alvarado with Colorado State Patrol said the teen driver was the only person in the black 2005 Acura hatchback.

The teen struck a light pole at W. Ken Caryl Avenue and S. Kendall Boulevard around 2:10 a.m. Monday. The impact threw him from the car, Alvarado said.

Flying debris from the crash damaged six other vehicles. Alvarado said it was not clear if the other cars were occupied or not, but there were no other injuries.

The impact brought down power cables in the area, which are hanging low and will need to be repaired, Alvarado said.

As of Monday at 7:30 a.m., CSP could not yet confirm if alcohol or drugs were involved.

CSP has not released the driver’s name. But said the teen is from Littleton. The crash is under investigation.
