WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A teacher at Milliken Middle School has been put on administrative leave following multiple complaints of unprofessional conduct.
Leslie Arnold, superintendent of Weld RE5J School District, said Brian Nelson was placed on paid administrative leave on Oct. 10. The school district became aware of an incident around 10 p.m. that day. A message was sent to parents the following morning.
Nelson taught multiple classes in the 7th and 8th grades at the middle school.
Arnold said the school district received several calls from Safe2Tell, which allows students, parents and community members to leave anonymous reports. Many people also sent emails to staff members or tagged the school district’s Facebook page in related posts.
Nelson’s profile page was removed from the middle school’s staff directory.
Arnold said the incident is in the hands of the Johnstown Police Department and the school district will wait for authorities to complete their investigation.
Parents of students who attend Roosevelt High School and Milliken Middle School received the following letter on Oct. 11:
Dear Roosevelt High School and Milliken Middle School Families:
To make you aware, a staff member at Milliken Middle School has been placed on administrative leave for unprofessional conduct late last night. Fortunately, many people last night shared information with us directly about this situation and to Safe2Tell, which is an anonymous reporting system that ensures every student, parent, and community member has access to a safe and anonymous way to report any concerns about their safety or the safety of others.
Because this is a personnel matter, as a District we are limited in the information that we can share. What we can tell you is that an investigation is underway in cooperation with the Johnstown Police Department.
We are asking that any information you may have go directly to the Johnstown Police Department.
