DENVER – Wednesday is the 19th annual Bike to Work Day, in which more than 35,000 people are expected to participate across the Denver metro area.
Way To Go, a program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments and sponsor of the event, says the goal of the day is to promote cycling over driving and improve air quality at the same time.
The DRCOG says it expects biking trips to increase by 56% over the next 20 years in the metro area. Colorado already ranks among the most cycling-friendly states in the country.
During last year’s Bike to Work Day, more than 36,000 riders participated. The average one-way commute was 8.8 miles, according to Way To Go.
There will be almost 300 breakfast stations, water stations and bike parties set up across the metro area at various parts of the day. The breakfast stations will run from 6:30-9 a.m. and the water stations and bike parties will he up from 3:30-6 p.m.
People hoping to participate can map their commute through BikeToWorkDay.us by entering a starting and ending point.
DRCOG is asking people to register if they plan to participate or if they want to organize an event or coordinate their company’s participation in the day’s events.
