DENVER – A dump truck leaking fuel on westbound Interstate 70 and 6th Avenue created a traffic headache for commuters Sunday afternoon.

The crash was initially reported by CDOT on Twitter at 1:05 p.m. as an incident involving “multiple vehicles.”

Drivers on the road near where the crash took place snapped photos of the dump truck and said the crash must have happened at around 12:45 p.m.

By 1:50 p.m., CDOT officials said the crash involved a semi, adding traffic was unaffected at 6th Avenue and Colfax. I-70 west from 6th Avenue and C-470 was also suggested as an alternate route by CDOT officials.

Nearly 30 minutes later, CDOT said the dump truck was leaking fuel and that CDOT engineers were headed to the scene to check on a bridge structure.

Colorado State Patrol Troopers said the crash involved a 69-year-old man who was driving a Ford F-150 and the dump truck.

The 69-year-old man suffered minor injures, but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the semi, a 45-year-old man, refused treatment at the scene, according to CSP.

Westbound I-70 was back open at 6th Avenue by 6:35 p.m.
