COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – People are going homeless to bring awareness to the issue plaguing many communities in Colorado.

A Colorado Springs science teacher will be one of 50 volunteers who will sleep on the streets of the city Thursday night to help end youth homelessness, the Colorado Springs Gazette reports.

This is the third year for the “Night Out to End Youth Homelessness." The fundraiser is sponsored by Urban Peak Colorado.

Volunteers will be homeless on one of the coldest nights of the season. Participants will have access to a church to stay warm but they are not allowed to use a tent while they spend the night outdoors.

Organizers hope to raise $64,000 this year.
