GLENDALE, Colo. – A vehicle wanted in a deadly hit-and-run in Glendale earlier this week was found Wednesday engulfed in flames with a body inside, police said in a news release Thursday.
A Medina Alert was issued after police responded to the area of Leetsdale Drive and S. Cherry Street this past Monday following reports of an auto pedestrian accident.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they found a 74-year-old woman and her dog who had been struck by a vehicle who had left the scene of the crash.
The woman was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Witnesses at the scene were able to provide a limited description of the vehicle along with a partial license plate. The Medina Alert was issued not long after.
After an investigation, a possible suspect driver was identified. On Wednesday, a vehicle matching the description was found in Lake County engulfed in flames. Once extinguished, “it was determined that there was a human body inside,” police said in a news release.
The vehicle suffered extensive damage due to the fire, police said.
CBI is currently investigating, and an autopsy of the body is pending. The Medina Alert was canceled by Thursday morning.
