LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Police are searching for answers after two people brought a man with an apparent gunshot wound to the emergency room and left before police arrived.

Just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, several people called 911 to report shots fired around the area of Sheridan Boulevard and W. 4th Avenue, said Lakewood Police Spokesman Paul Osckel.

When police arrived at the scene, they found blood and shell casings, but didn’t find anybody who was injured.

A short time later, a vehicle pulled up to the Swedish Medical Center's emergency room. A man and woman pulled a man who had an apparent gunshot wound from the vehicle, dropped him at the emergency room and drove away before police arrived, Osckel said.

The wounded man was in critical condition as of Thursday evening. He was transferred to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood.

Osckel said police are working to identify the man and woman who dropped the injured man off at the emergency room. He said the department believes the man was shot at the Sheridan and 4th Avenue intersection.
