SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. – Multiple wildfires burning in Colorado has not only forced hundreds from their homes but has disrupted a popular and time-honored bike run.

On Thursday, organizers with the Triple Bypass Ride announced that this year’s event has been canceled due to the Peak 2 Fire burning near Breckenridge and another one in Eagle County.

Event organizers say the fires would have posed a safety risk to participants and volunteers as they moved along the course. The 29th-annual ride was to have kick off this weekend.

The Triple Bypass is a 120-mile bicycle ride along scenic highways, country roads and bike paths between Evergreen and Avon. The event has given millions to the community over the years.

Although the ride has been canceled, the Triple Festival in Evergreen will go on as scheduled this Saturday. Organizers say the ride will return next year. Denver7 is a sponsor of the ride.
