Whether you’re hitting the road or just hitting the local pool, parents can always use a little help keeping the kids entertained during the summer.

The Toy Insider visited Denver7 to talk about the top toys for summer of 2019.

The takeaway?

Water and pool toys are a must during the summer months. Blow Up Blasters from Swimways come in a variety of characters and are perfect for in the pool.

“These are really great for younger kids because they can’t sink in the pool,” said Madeleine Buckley, an assistant editor with The Toy Insider.

The Toy Insider also recommends the Little Tikes Triple Play Splash T-Ball, the Baby Alive Shimmer n’ Splash Mermaid by Hasbro, the Playmobil Water Tank Sand Truck, the X-Shot Fill Fast by Zuru, and the H2OGO Pop Llama by Bestway.

All of the water toys recommended by The Toy Insider are less than $30 and can be used safely. It’s important to use toys as instructed and for the recommended ages, especially when it comes to water toys.
In June, the advocacy group World Against Toys Causing Harm, or W.A.T.C.H., released a list of the most dangerous summer toys and activities. The group warned specifically about doughnut-shaped pool rings, which can lead to drowning.

The Toy Insider also has several recommendations for good travel toys, for both road trips or air travel.

“All the best travel toys are small, easy to pack, flat, and easy to stick in a bag,” Buckley said.

The Toy Insider recommends the Boxy Girls Mini Box and Boxy Girls Pets, the I Spy Travel Card game by University Games, the Colorforms Travel Set by Kahootz, Mini Arcade Games by Basic Fun, and the Dolce Mouse and Rabbit Backpack by Magformers.

For books, they recommend a line of personalized books by Wonderbly.
