DENVER — Three men accused of stabbing a man and his dog and threatening a woman have been extradited to Colorado from Illinois.

They all face attempted first-degree murder and aggravated cruelty to animals charges, among others.

The charges stem from an incident on July 11. Around 10:40 p.m. that evening, police with the Denver Police Department responded to a call about a robbery in progress at an apartment near Park Avenue West and Larimer Street. When they arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed multiple times and a woman holding a bloody dog, which had also been stabbed.

The man was transported to the hospital. While he was in the ambulance, he told police that a group had stopped by his apartment to hang out. When he got up to get water, he and his dog were attacked by the men, he told police. A suspect first stabbed his dog and when the man turned around, he was assaulted, according to an affidavit.

The woman told police that she was physically unharmed, but one of the visitors had held a knife close to her face.

The dog, which was severely injured, was brought to an emergency care facility for care. He survived. A second dog in the apartment was treated for a small wound.

Police found a knife at the apartment, according to an affidavit.

They obtained HALO video from a camera at Park Avenue West and Larimer Street and saw a vehicle park along the 1200 block of Park Avenue West at 10:08 p.m., joined by another vehicle at 10:16 p.m. About 16 minutes after the group goes into the apartment, they’re seen on camera running back to the vehicles, according to an affidavit.

On July 22, the male victim told police four of the suspects’ names. He also provided their social media information and descriptions.

Three of the suspects — 22-year-old James Perkins, 20-year-old D’Andre Perkins and 20-year-old Davon Reed — were arrested in mid-September after they showed up for probation appointments in Springfield, Illinois. They had been at-large since the July 11 stabbing.

All three were extradited back to Colorado and have been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated cruelty to animals, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, menacing, first-degree burglary and crime of violence.

Two remaining suspects are still at-large.
