THORNTON, Colo. – The Denver suburb of Thornton has the lowest crime rates in the country, according to a new report from Apartment List.
The rental listing site included the distinction in its list of the best cities for families in 2017.
Thornton’s overall ranking on that list is 110 out of 510 cities. Flower Mound, Texas takes the top spot overall.
But when looking only at crime rate data from the FBI, Thornton comes out on top. Apartment List said Thornton had 244 violent and property crimes per 100,000 residents in 2015, making it the safest of all the cities on the list.
Safety was one of four factors the site used for its family-friendliness rankings. The others were housing affordability, high school graduation rates and percentage of the population under 18.
Using those measures, Texas cities took four of the top 10 spots on the list.
