Thornton officer-involved shooting leaves 1 man dead Tuesday evening

THORNTON, Colo. — One man has died following an officer-involved shooting in Thornton late Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening at 11:15 p.m., an officer with the Thornton Police Department noticed a suspicious man in a parking lot at Thornton Infrastructure Center, which is located at 12450 N. Washington St., according to police.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officers and man exchanged gunfire, though police did not say what led up to the shooting or when additional officers joined the one who initially spotted the man.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release his identification after notifying next of kin.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to police.

No officers were injured in the shooting. Those who were involved were placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol.

The Adams County Critical Incident Investigative Team is investigating this officer-involved shooting.
